My darling grandson is making all the right moves to one day become a radio DJ or maybe even a TV presenter. ( And he is doing very well.)

I hope that when he gets there one day he will remember to play some “Golden Oldies” to keep people like me happy and also to show the younger generation that love songs can be beautiful.

Most people that I know want to go away to somewhere else for a holiday

I agree that getting away from time to time can be very enjoyable and probably also necessary to keep one’s perspective.

But , still , speaking for myself and many of my friends , it is always very nice to come home again.

There is a sense of security and comfort when we are on our own home turf , sleeping in our own beds , cooking our own favourite foods , kicking the dog ( not really ), and scolding the children and grand-children for the clothes that they wear. Generally , just being an ” Old-man-pain-in-the-arse.”

I would’nt want it any other way , would you ?

Some time ago I read a report in the newspaper that President Mbeki had commented that,” He didn’t realise that there were also poor white people in the country.”

I have read many newspaper reports that say that he questions the existence of AIDS and that he and his Minister of Health believe that we must simply eat more garlic and African potatoes.

He and his Chiefs of Police and Security believe that crime is reducing and is under control. ( I know of no-one else who agrees )

He believes that Quiet Diplomacy will solve Zimbabwe’s problems , even though thousands are fleeing the country daily.

Now I read in the newspaper that at his recent Cape Town Imbizo he asked the question ” What is TIK ?”

It seems to me that from his Ivory Tower vantage point he doesn’t have a clue about what is happening on the ground.

I listened to the news on TV a few minutes ago and it is all about Black South African Politics.

They were on about Mc.Brides charge of drunken driving.

He says that he has loss of memory after some work party function.

No surprise there , many people have had loss of memory after drinking too much.

The more important issue that people seem to have forgotten is that Mc.Bride placed a bomb outside a restuarant in Observatory some years ago with no thought of who might be killed and that makes him a terrosist  of the worst kind.

The fact that the ANC have elected to put a man of this character into an official position is evidence of their blindness to any wrongdoing of their imaginary “Struggle Heroes”

They were not heroes , they were mindless killers.

As we see in other parts of the world today.

My “Daughter-in-Law” at this very moment is in labour giving birth to what will be her 3′rd child and my 6′th grandchild.

We were hoping for a boy for family lingage reasons but the doctors tell us that it is a girl.

Never mind , she will still be the pet of the family just because she is the youngest.

I have raised one daughter of my own and many more grandaughters.

It brings back to mind a song sang by a lover called Maurice Chevalier. (Please forgive me if I got the spelling wrong.)

He sang “Thank heaven for little girls , without them what would little boys do ?”

He was right you know , but , more than that , what would grandfathers do ?

Played a game of bowls this morning. Good weather, nice game, pleasant company, it did not matter who won or lost.

The point that made an impression on me was a comment made by my opposing skip (Who is also the club coach)

He said that he is worried about the young children that we are trying to introduce to the game.

I said “Why, I don’t understand”

He said it is the young girls.

I said “What do you mean , too young or too old ?”)

His answer took my breath away. He said that these young girls of 16 were talking openly about who they had slept with the previous night and that we older guys should stand back and be very wary.

Wow , those thoughts have never entered my mind before but maybe I should be a bit more aware in future.

At  todays congress of the SACP, they decided to change nothing , just keep on hanging on to the ANC’s apron strings.

Why , because it means more money in the pockets of their leaders.

The history of the world is that every Communist led country has gone bankrupt.(No exceptions)

Only people who are so poor that they have nothing to lose or blinkered  idealists, (who are also looking to line their own pockets) or religeous fanatics who want to buy a ticket to heaven support communism because there is no evidence that their philosophy has ever worked. On the contrary , there is a lot of evidence to show that their philosophy has caused many wars and much misery.

I have numerous ideas about how I would change things if I was the President but too lengthy and complex for todays blogg.

The headlines in my daily newspaper read ,

1  ”Long queues in Zimbabwe , empty shelves and despair.”

2  ”Mugabe snub sabotages Mbeki talks”

When will they ever learn ?

Mugabe is a murderous dictator who is busy destroying a whole country and subjecting millions of people to starvation and utter despair.

President Mbeki , What are you doing about it ?

Do you support Mugabe?

Are you actually yourself a Mugabe in disguise?

Quiet diplomacy is a sham. It does not work.

Please say and do something about Zim. instead of skipping off to some other part of the world to sprout some more empty nothings.

I am back now from my trip to Windhoek and I am struck by the great difference in climatic conditions.

In Windhoek I froze every morning and for the first time in my life I used an electric blanket.

Upon arriving back in my beloved town of Somerset West, I was confronted with a swimming pool totally polluted with masses of leaves and garden benches overturned by storm winds.(Thankfully the roof tiles were still in place.)

It makes me wonder about this story about global warming and whether we are actually getting warmer or colder.

It must have been at least 40-years ago when my mother-in-law said that all that iron junk that the sattelites were leaving in the sky was bad.(She was already 60+ years old and knew nothing about science)

You know what, she was actually right.

It wasn’t about all the bits of sattelite rocket-motor metal left up in the heavens , it was all about the exhaust fumes left behind by our modern-day jet aeroplanes.

These guys fly so high that the rubbish they leave behind stays up there for God knows how long.It creates a blanket that will make the world get warmer (And in some parts colder).Either way , climate change would cause lots of problems. It could, for example, totally submerge major ports all over the world.Trade would stop and people would starve.

My suggestion, and plea,to the scientists and politicians who have the power to change things is , please make and enforce a law that prohibits aeroplanes from flying at higher than 10 000 ft.

Newspaper reports say that the Southern African Development Community wants to extend the Rand monetary area into Zimbabwe so as to prop up the Zim dollar and stave off an economic meltdown in that country.

All that Mugabe needs to do to get all that lovely lolly to start rolling in is to agree to have talks with the opposition party MDC.

He would not need to agree to anything said at the talks but could immediately start to squander the Rands as he has squandered the Zim dollars.

The first essential requirement if Zimbabwe is to be saved from total ruin is that Mugabe must be kicked out.

“Silent Diplomacy” does not work.
