February 2009

We are still awaiting the American Congress outcome regarding the multi-billion dollar bailout package, (but their stock markets have gone down)

Trevor Manuel, the longest serving Minister of Finance in the world, and an extremely successful one, delivered his South African budget for 2009 this afternoon and,yet again, did a very good job.

No great surprises or communist-inspired handouts of money.

Just a down to earth report on the state of the nation and a practical way forward.

Well done.

We are awaiting the outcome of the US Congress decision on the proposed bailout package.

Not only the US, but most of the large economies of the world are trying desperately to prevent depression by pumping billions into the monetary system. (Who will eventually pay all the debt remains to be seen)

My crystal ball, (and my hope), says that it will work.

We have hit bottom and it will be up from here.

Also my hope is that we have learned our lessons regarding excessive debt and that we will be more prudent in future.
