Ron’s Thoughts …

When I checked my avocado tree today, I saw thousands of blossoms.

If they all became avocados, the branches would break.

That won’t happen.

What will happen is that the wind will come up, thousands of blossoms will land up on the ground, I will curse the wind, but, hopefully, probably, a few hundred will survive to give me fruit this season.

That is natures way.

This afternoon I went, (for the first time in 9-months) to the movies to see a film called “District 9″, a story about weird-looking aliens from outer space being stranded on our earth and confined to a separate militarily secured area.

I, being a South African, had an interest in this Sci-fi movie. Directed and produced by a South African and set in Johannesburg/South Africa, a country with a history of racial segregation and xenophobia.

I came out thinking that racism and xenophobia were not the main focus of the movie.  It was really about lust for power and how more powerful weapons could give one that power and how sacrificing lives to gain that power was incidental.

A well made thought provoking movie but not for sensitive viewers.

The box-office success of the film and the promise of, “I will return in 3-years time” is a guarantee that the aliens will return.

Will it be to rescue their own kind or to declare war on humans ?
